02-09-2016, Entebbe, Uganda – The IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) in partnership with the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) conducted a three days regional training workshop from 29 to 31 August 2016 on the Protection of Victims, Witnesses and Criminal Justice System officials as a Good Practice in Preventing and Countering Terrorism in the Horn and Eastern Africa Region in Entebbe, Uganda.

31-08-2016 Kampala, Uganda:
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is in the process of developing a Regional Strategy on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and financial contribution from the Government of Japan.

The strategy will be developed within the framework of supporting the operationalization and development of the Horn and Eastern Africa CVE Center of Excellence and Counter-Messaging Hub.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD’s) Security Sector Program (SSP) in collaboration with Sahan Foundation officially launched and released the study report on Al-Shabaab as a Transitional Security Threat on August 15, 2016.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) together with other Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and the European Union held the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting from April 17 – 19, 2016 in Djibouti to review progress made in the implementation of the Regional Programme for the Promotion of Regional Maritime Security in the Eastern Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean (ESA-IO).
