June 23, 2026 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti) – The Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) congratulates the Government and people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on the successful conduct of the 7th General Elections held on 1 June 2026.
The Secretariat also congratulates H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and the Prosperity Party on attaining a majority in the elections, as announced by the National Election Board of Ethiopia on 21 June 2026.
IGAD commends the National Election Board of Ethiopia for its professionalism and dedication in administering the electoral process and acknowledges the Ethiopian people for their peaceful participation, which contributed to the orderly conduct of the elections.
The Secretariat notes that the successful conduct of the elections reflects Ethiopia’s continued commitment to democratic governance and constitutional order and expresses confidence in the country’s continued efforts to foster national unity, strengthen inclusive dialogue, and advance peace, stability, and sustainable development.
IGAD reaffirms its commitment to working closely with the Government of Ethiopia in advancing regional cooperation, integration, peace, stability, and sustainable development across the IGAD region.
