H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), congratulates H.E. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh on his re-election as President of the Republic of Djibouti, following the presidential elections held on 10 April 2026.
The Executive Secretary commends the people of Djibouti for the peaceful conduct of the elections and their participation in the electoral process, reflecting their continued commitment to peace, stability, and national development.
He further underscores the Republic of Djibouti’s longstanding role as a stronghold of regional diplomacy and cooperation, and its continued contribution to advancing dialogue, stability, and collective action in the Horn of Africa.
The Executive Secretary also commends H.E. Mulatu Teshome, former President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Head of the IGAD Election Observation Mission, together with all observers, for their professionalism and dedication in carrying out their observation duties.
The Executive Secretary reiterates IGAD’s continued commitment to working with the Government and people of the Republic of Djibouti in advancing regional cooperation, peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
