06-11-2018, Djibouti (Djibouti): The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, H.E. Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim, this morning received credential letters from the Ambassador of Somalia to Djibouti and IGAD, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ali-Nur Haji, who will also and subsequently be a member of the IGAD Committee of Ambassadors.


The same morning, the Executive Secretary also received the Ambassador of Sweden to Ethiopia and accredited to IGAD, H.E. Ambassador Torbjörn Pettersson, on a courtesy visit to the Secretariat. The Executive Secretary thanked Ambassador Peterson for the support provided by his country to the regional organisation and expressed his hope to see more interaction between IGAD and Sweden on the drought resilience regional agenda. He also acknowledged the substantial support provided by Sweden to IGAD Member States on a bilateral basis.

 The Executive Secretary then received the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Ethiopia and Djibouti, H.E. Ambassador Susanna Moorehead, on a courtesy visit. The two parties discussed about the recent positive developments in the region and the operationalisation of the peace agreement in South Sudan. The Executive Secretary called for extended work relations with the UK and committed himself and his team to following up with identifying areas of future cooperation.


26-10-2018,Rome ( Italy): While in Rome Amb. Mahboub held meetings several senior officials including: H.E. Enzo Maovero Milanesi, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs; H.E. Prof. Emanuela Del Re-the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Massimo Gaiani- the Italian MoF Director of Global issues among other. 
Amb. Mahboub updated them on IGAD programs in the enhancing regional peace and security as well as regional integration and development.
The Italian officials commended Amb. Mahboub for the significant achievements that IGAD has registered in South Sudan Peace Process, in the Somalia Stabilization and in Countering Violent Extremism. They retaliated their government commitment to support IGAD institutions and programs. 
The ES also met with senior Carabinieri officials in Rome. The ES thanked the team for collaborating with the IGAD Center of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism to offer joint trainings. The Carabinieri team expressed their readiness and willingness to upscale the trainings.



19-10-2018, Djibouti (Djibouti): The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim, has expressed deep sadness upon receiving the news of the passing away of Mr. Abdel Rahman Suwar al-Dahab, former President of Republic of the Sudan.

Amb Maalim said that “Mr. Al-Dahab will be remembered as a celebrated leader both at home and abroad for his illustrious contribution to the Republic of Sudan as well as his deep commitment to the ideals of peace and democracy”.

"He was also one of the founding fathers of IGAD having served as the President of Sudan during the time of the organization’s establishment in 1986", the message continues. 

 Amb Maalim conveyed his heartfelt condolences and that of the IGAD family to Mr. Al-Dahab’s family as well as the government and people of the Republic Sudan.
