US Ambassador Visit to IGADThe Ambassador of the United States of America to Djibouti, H.E. Mr. James C. Swan has made a courtesy visit to the office of the Executive Secretary of IGAD, Eng. Mahboub Maalim. The officials exchanged wide ranging views including the peace and security and humanitarian situation of the region.

ES with delegation for GTZThe Regional Director for East Africa at the German Agency for Technical Assistance (GTZ) on a three-day visit to IGAD Secretariat in Djibouti said that her country will continue to support IGAD because the regional organization is a building block of the African Economic Community under AU and the region has genuine political and economic challenges.

Eng. Mahboub with H.E. Mr.Gu XiaojieIGAD Executive Secretary, Eng. Mahboub Maalim, met with the ambassador of China to the Republic of Ethiopia H.E. Mr.Gu Xiaojie.

The Executive Secretary briefed the ambassador about the revitalization of IGAD and the works of the organization in the region.

“We will support your efforts,” said Ambassador Xiaojie, “We appreciate your efforts of regional integration, revitalization and promotion of peace.”

The E.S with Somalia's PresidentThe Executive Secretary, Eng. Mahboub Maalim, paid a courtesy visit to the President of Somalia, Sh. Sharif Sh. Ahmed. Eng. Maalim congratulated the new Somali President and assured the support of IGAD in the rebuilding of the country.

The Executive Secretary also met with the Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke and exchanged views on the region and Somalia in particular.

On February 13, 2009, Sh. Sharif Sh. Ahmed nominated the Prime Minister at a ceremony in Djibouti, the Republic of Djibouti. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Sharmarke pledged to work hard to reconcile and unite his nation.

Eng. Maalim and Mr. YoussoufThe Executive Secretary has paid a working visit to the office of Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf. The officials exchanged wide-ranging views including the preparation of the upcoming meeting of the IGAD Council of Ministers to be held in Djibouti.
