H.E. Michéle Lévesque

The Canadian Ambassador to Djibouti, H.E. Michéle Lévesque, made a working visit to the IGAD Secretariat. Acting director of Administration and Finance, Mr. Bwango Apuuli welcomed the ambassador to the IGAD headquarters, Djibouti and briefed her about the works of the organization. H.E. Eng. Maalim and Dr. Sheila ShisuluThe IGAD Executive Secretary, Eng. Mahboub Maalim, and the WFP Deputy Executive Director for Hunger Solutions, Dr. Sheila Shisulu, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The MOU paves tihe way for enhanced collaboration and cooperation between the two organisations to improve food and nutrition security in the IGAD region. The MOU provides for the establishment of an Executive Body, a Technical Committee and a Coordination Office to spearhead the implementation of the MOU. Born in 1962 as a UN agency, WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide - reaching more than 90 million people.

Eng. Maalim and H.E. Amr MoussaIGAD Executive Secretary, Eng. Mahboub Maalim, met in Cairo, H.E. Mr. Amr Moussa, the Secretary General of the Arab League. The parties discussed wide ranging issues including the situation of Somalia and Sudan and the implementation of joint projects in the areas of agricultural development, food security, and the refugees in the region.

The Arab League is a regional organization of Arab states in Southwest Asia, and North and Northeast Africa. The Arab League is member of the IGAD Partners Forum.

IGAD Eexecutive Secretary, Mr. Mahboub Maalim signed an MOU with the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU/IBAR) in Nairobi on 17th December 2009. The MOU provides for the partnership of IGAD and AU/IBAR in the implementation of the Participation of African Nations in the Sanitary and Pytosanitary Standards Setting Organisations (PAN-SPSO) programme.
