12-03-2017, Djibouti: The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) H.E Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim this morning received and met with the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Mr. Taye-Brook Zerihoun at the IGAD Secretariat Djibouti.

The meeting was to share information and exchange ideas on the overall peace and security issues in the IGAD region in general with major emphasis on South Sudan and Somalia.  They also discussed the on-going processes of the Memorandum of Agreement singed in 2015 between the two sides whereby areas of cooperation were identified through which UN and IGAD can work more closely towards a more secure and stable region. 

The other areas touched on were drought in the IGAD region, humanitarian issues related to conflicts and security threats, and the need for more enhanced institutional capacity to coordinate implementation of regional initiatives. 

Finally, H.E Mr. Taye-Brook Zerihoun and H.E Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim agreed to facilitate the implementation of the joint Memorandum of Agreement .
