Khartoum, 31 August 2014 – IGAD Security Sector Program (ISSP) held a three days regional training on “Promoting International Legal Instruments on Preventing and Countering TOC” from 25-27 August 2014 in Khartoum, Sudan. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Tuemay Aregawi, the Head of Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) Pillar at ISSP who thanked welcomed all participants and thanked the government of Sudan for the workshop and particularly the National Counter Terrorism Commission of Sudan (NCTC) and its Director and staff for the great hospitality. He further called up on Dr. Gen. Mohammed Jamal Eldeen, Director of the National Counter Terrorism Commission of Sudan, to address the deliberation. Dr. Gen. Jamal welcomed all participants and appreciated ISSP for organizing the workshop in Khartoum. He further stressed the need for practical cooperation among member states in fighting TOC
22-08-2014, Kampala: Ambassador Ben Lukwiya, Head of Multilateral Organizations and Treaties Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, this evening officially closed the first High Level Mediation Course for IGAD Mediators in the presence of Mr. Daniel Yifru-Acting Director of IGAD Peace and Security Division, and Mr. Murezi Michael, Head of Mediation Desk at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, at the Munyonyo Speke Resort in Kmapala.
A high level training on peace-building and mediation was convened in Nairobi for delegates from IGAD Member States. Aimed at building the capacity of the Member States, the training will build on the understanding of the participants on conflict analysis in their countries for the design of comprehensive program to build the mediation capacity of the Member States.
(IGAD – Addis Ababa) The Committee of Ambassadors of IGAD convened a three day meeting on Democracy, Governance and Elections in Bishoftu, Ethiopia.
The Secretariat of IGAD will present study report on Democracy, Governance and Elections, and draft protocol on Democracy, Governance and Elections to the committee for their consideration and recommendation.
