Between 15th and 19th July 2014, a mission was conducted in Addis Ababa by senior IGAD staff from the Secretariat and IRAPP.

During the five-day program, plans for the first IGAD International Scientific Conference on Health were concretized through meetings with a variety of partners and stakeholders. These included officials of the African Federation of Public Health Associations who are providing technical leadership to the December conference.

The Executive Secretary of IGAD H.E Amb. (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim and the Swiss ambassador in Ethiopia, H.E Amb. Andrea Semadeni, have today in Addis Ababa signed a framework agreement on partnership and cooperation between IGAD and Switzerland. The agreement, which comes into force with today's signing, provides for increased cooperation between Switzerland and IGAD in the Horn of Africa in areas of food security, migration, peace and security, as well as in the field of science.

Addis Ababa, 14th June 2014. The IGAD Secretariat today launched the first ever scientific conference on health with particular emphasis on pastoralists and cross-border mobile populations in the region. The Conference was convened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 3rd to 6th December 2014. The launching ceremony was attended by representatives of IGAD Member States, the IGAD Secretariat, African Federation of Public Health Associations, other partners/stakeholders and the Media.

(27 May 2014 – Addis Ababa) A two technical workshop on Knowledge Management for gender mainstreaming in IGAD’s drought resilience strategy was convened today in Addis Ababa. Participants from IGAD’s Member States and academics will discuss the gaps of knowledge products in the agriculture, rural development and the development of building blocks for the Knowledge Management for the gender mainstreaming among other topics.
