The IGAD Center of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (ICEPCVE), with the support of the US Embassy in Djibouti, held a workshop for the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Alumni from 30th October to 2nd November 2017, in the Republic of Djibouti.
The workshop was titled “Amplifying the Voices of Young African Leaders in the Fight Against Radicalisation and Violent Extremism“. The objective of the workshop was to provide an open and inclusive platform to directly engage diverse stakeholders, including the youth, in the fight against radicalisation and violent extremism. The workshop provided a platform for YALI alumni to review work dedicated to preventing and countering violent extremism, exchange ideas, learn about best practices and formulate key messages for the use of youth policy actors in the region. The participants were equipped with the skills to develop alternative narratives and counter narratives which they will disseminate within their networks and local communities.
The workshop was officially opened by the IGAD Executive Secretary, Amb. Mahboub Maalim. In attendance were officials from the US Embassy to Djibouti and ICEPCVE Director, Dr. Simon Nyambura.
