The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), HE Ambassador (Engineer) Mahboub Maalim, conveys his deepest and sincere condolences to the family members of Nelson Mandela, and to the people and the government of South Africa following the painful loss of Nelson Mandela.

“The loss of the anti-apartheid hero is a loss not only for South Africa, but also for the entire world. The first elected President in the history of South Africa was and will always be a source of inspiration for all of us. Nelson Mandela was an example of courage, determination, and humanity. He was an accomplished statesman who is still shining on us.”

Ambassador (Engineer) Mahboub Maalim highlighted that the loss of such a role model will only trigger the emerging of inspired Africans who will follow Nelson Mandela’s path towards peace and prosperity.
