The Executive Secretary of IGAD Amb.(Eng) Mahboub Maalim has met with the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdi Farah Shirdon. Both sides discussed at length issues about the region especially the political progress in Somalia. The Prime Minister of Somalia praised efforts of IGAD in stabilizing the country.

“Time has come to thank and congratulate AMISOM and IGAD member states on their efforts to stabilize the county. Because of their vital peace mission, Somalia is back on track and is ready to play an important role on regional development,” said the Prime Minister. “We want to improve our cooperation and discuss with our friends on issues including: regional security, trade, improving human rights, greater partnership and development.”

The Executive Secretary reiterated IGAD’s support of the people and government of Somalia.
