29 March 2021, Djibouti. The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) welcomes the signing of the Declaration of Principles (DoP) between the Government of the Republic of Sudan and Sudan’s People Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) that took place in Juba, South Sudan on 28 March 2021.
IGAD commends all the parties involved for their resolve and commitment that led to this positive and encouraging outcome. We wish to thank the Government of the Republic of South Sudan and the Government of Ethiopia in particular and members of the international community who supported this process and provided the much needed diplomatic support.
We congratulate the Sudanese people for this important milestone towards sustainable peace and urge signatories to the Declaration to respect its provisions.
We reiterate the full support and solidarity of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development with the Government and people of Sudan in their aspirations towards democracy, peace and prosperity
