The Peace and Security division of IGAD Secretariat organized a Seminar on Media and Democracy on the 9th & 10th of May 2012 in Adama, Ethiopia.
The participants included representatives from the media including news agencies, private media, radio and television from both the private and public sectors from the Republic of South Sudan.
The workshop participants studied the best practices of mass media and role of the media in building a strong democratic society.
The main objective of the seminar was to strengthen the capacity of the participants on the use of media, for the promotion of peace and security, democracy, good governance, credible elections and respect for human rights which are critical prerequisites for development, which is of paramount importance to the IGAD region.
