Djibouti, 16-11-2015: The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, HE Ambassador (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim received the newly appointed Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) of the Peace Agreement on South Sudan, HE Festus Mogae, in his office at IGAD Secretariat in Djibouti yesterday in the presence of the Director of IGAD Peace and Security Division, Ambassador Tewolde Gebrameskel.

 

Ambassador Maalim affirmed unwavering support to the newly appointed Chairperson, who happens to be former President of the Republic of Botswana, in his duties.

“Our role is to assure you of our entire support and assistance so as to provide you and your team the most suitable environment that will enable success in delivering peace and stability and ultimately carrying out your mandate”, Ambassador Maalim said.

After thanking the Executive Secretary for his warm welcome, President Festus Mogae asserted that he will be working with IGAD Executive Secretary and his team, along with South Sudan, towards the implementation of the recent peace agreement in South Sudan.

“We have no choice but to get this peace agreement implemented. We will do everything in our power to have our brothers and sisters in South Sudan live in peace and harmony again”, he concluded.###
