The Executive Secretary of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Ambassador (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim congratulates the judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya for reaching a unanimous decision on the presidential petition.
The historic court ruling brings to an end the dispute lodged after the declaration of presidential election results on 9th March 2013 and demonstrates the independence of the judiciary under the new Constitution of Kenya. IGAD takes the decision of the six judges as great achievement to be celebrated throughout the region showing the maturity of the democratic process in Kenya.
On his own behalf and that of the IGAD Member States, the Executive Secretary conveys a message of congratulations to the President Elect, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, Hon. William Ruto. He welcomes President Elect Kenyatta as a key member of the IGAD Summit of Heads of State and Government soon after being sworn in on 9th April 2013, and wishes him all the best in his endeavours.
Amb. Mahboub further calls upon the Kenyan people to continue maintaining peace and tranquility as they fully embark on the more important task of nation building. He assures them of the region’s continued support and solidarity.
