26 May 2014, Djibouti: The IGAD Executive Secretary, Ambassador (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks on Djibouti and Mogadishu on May 24, 2014, and a similar attack that resulted in numerous civilian casualties in Nairobi on 16 May 2014.
The IGAD Executive Secretary expressed deep condolences to families of the victims as well as the people and governments of Djibouti, Kenya and Somalia. He further stated that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes a cowardly and intolerable act. He stated IGAD will continue to stand firmly behind governments of the region to combat it.
These attacks by terrorist groups that are indiscriminately targeting innocent civilians and elected member of parliaments will impact in no way our support to the governments of these countries for a stable and peaceful environment in our region.
IGAD is committed to combatting terrorism and working towards a violence-free region. ###
