25-08-2016, Djibouti: It is with profound shock and sorrow that IGAD learnt of the devastating earthquake that hit the central part of Italy yesterday August 25th killing many.

IGAD offers its heartfelt condolences and stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Italy as well as the families of those who lost their lives in this terrible natural disaster. It also wishes a speedy recovery to all those who are injured.

IGAD commends the swift and committed efforts that the government and people of Italy have deployed to rescue the victims of this terrible earthquake and wishes them success in their truly difficult lifesaving work.

IGAD is also saddened by the devastation that the earthquake has caused to the priceless historical buildings and artistic treasures that have been destroyed. This loss is not only Italy’s but also that of all in the human family. ###
