The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has today 23, November 2019 pledged 50,000 US Dollars towards the relief efforts for the flood victims in the Republic of Djibouti.
The Executive Secretary of IGAD, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu said, “The floods in Djibouti are due to the global climate changes as predicted by IGAD’s Climate Prediction and Application Center (ICPAC). It is expected that the region will receive heavy rainfalls of 50 – 70 mm in the month of November 2019. ”
The Government of Djibouti has set up a disaster relief committee headed by the Minister of Interior, H.E. Moumin Ahmed Sheik, to oversee the relief efforts.
“IGAD is monitoring the situation and is working with Member States to develop resilience programs dealing with the recurring floods and drought situations,” said the Executive Secretary.
The Executive Secretary, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, reiterated IGAD’s solidarity with people and government of the Republic of Djibouti. “We are ready to assist the displaced communities,” he said.
