15.03.2017, Addis Ababa – The Director of the IGAD Peace & Security Division (PSD), Amb Tewolde Gebremeskel along with other Heads of Program, on March 15, 2017 received a 25 member delegation of the European Union (EU) who paid a courtesy visit at the IGAD Office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The delegation is a working group on EU support to the Horn of Africa and the purpose of the visit was part of the overall mission of the group to exchange views in the region.
Amb. Tewolde highlighted the particular focus areas of IGAD and the activities it conducts in the Member States. He said that the IGAD strategic plan of 2016-2020 has been aligned with the elements of the African Union strategic priorities for a more coordinated approach emphasizing that the strategic operations reflect the trends of the national and regional priorities with priority shift to conflict prevention rather than intervention.
He also appreciated the EU support to the Horn of Africa.
