05-09-2017, Djibouti (Djibouti): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Center of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (ICEPCVE) this morning launched a three-day workshop in Djibouti  on how law enforcement and communities can engage in preventing and countering violent extremism.

The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Guelleh Idriss Omar, the Director of Multilateral Affairs, Djibouti Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other key speakers included Col. Gianni Spaziani-Commander of the Italian Military Base in Djibouti, Col. Mauro Isidori-Commander of the Italian Carabinieri Training Mission in the Horn of Africa (MIADIT), and Dr. Simon Nyambura-the Director of IGAD CEPCVE.

The workshop is bringing together over fourty (40) law enforcement officers, civil societies and community leaders from the IGAD Member States plus Tanzania.

The main focus of the workshop is on Strategies for Fostering and Enhancing Trust as well as Partnerships between the Community and Law Enforcement Officials in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.

The workshop is financially supported by the Italian Government and which will also be sending some Carabinieri experts to share their experiences and skills in the future workshop series that will be organized by the Center.
