5-12-2016, Djibouti – IGAD Partners for the first time since the organisation’s inception in 1986 made a tour of the IGAD Secretariat offices in Djibouti from December 4-5, 2016.

The historic two day visit was honored by Ambassadors and partners under the IGAD Partners Forum (IPF) as well as the European Union (EU , Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

During the two day visit, the Executive Secretary of IGAD; His Excellency Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim expressed his gratitude, joy and excitement and that of IGAD towards the development partners’ support from its foundation to date and for honoring the invite to Djibouti.

He also thanked them for not giving up on the IGAD region despite the ever changing and reoccurring challenges in the region and for believing in the mandate that IGAD has towards its Member States to attain peace, prosperity and regional integration and cooperation to better the lives of the peoples in the Horn of Africa.

On December 4, 2016 after the tour of the different IGAD offices in Djibouti, a technical  meeting  for partners was held at the IGAD Secretariat for them to be aligned to the internal mechanisms that were not only limited to; Financial Systems, Internal Audit and control, Procurement, Human Resources, Monitoring and Evaluation functions at IGAD and ISAP.

The meeting on December 5, 2016 held at the Diplomatic Studies Institute was for IGAD Directors, Programme Managers to update the partners on status of the different divisions and their programmes such as Peace and Security; Maritime Security; Countering Violent Extremism; Economic Integration; Migration, Agriculture and Environment; Resilience, Livestock Health; Climate Prediction, IDDRSI and CEWARN to mention but a few.

The two day mission was for the IGAD partners to see, understand and be updated on the different aspects of the organization in a transparent, interactive and personal manner.

The partners commended IGAD for the tremendous achievements and pledged their continued support towards making the region more safe, secure, prosperous and developed.
