09-07-2018, Djibouti (Djibouti|): The Minister for the Interior of Djibouti, H.E. Hassan Omar Mohamed, today inaugurated an ad-hoc meeting of the Regional Migration Coordination Committee (RMCC) of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Djibouti in the presence of IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim, at the high table.
Based on the result of a feasibility study on the conception, set-up and operational modalities of a Regional Migration Fund (RMF), IGAD developed a Fund Concept which is being considered for validation by Member States during this two-day meeting.
The objectives of the Regional Migration Fund (RMF) are under discussions as well as the overall concept and added value of the RMF, its Governance Structure and, as importantly, measures and guiding principles for the RMF. The role and contribution of Member States will also be brought to consideration.
The participants to the dialogue are IGAD Member States representatives from the States’ line ministries and agencies with a lead on migration and refugee matters, including IGAD focal points in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Interior and Refugee Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Budget, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and NCMs focal points.
In his opening remarks, the Minister for the Interior called on the participants to “ensure that funding can be mobilized and implemented at the regional level to support member countries in providing adequate services to migrants, refugees and host communities”.
Amb Maalim reiterated the assistance the regional organisation is to bring to Member States in their endeveours and assured the members of the IGAD Regional Migration Coordination Committee (RMCC) of his entire support.
