Addis Ababa, October 20, 2010 (Addis Ababa) – The Inter Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD) hosts a regional workshop this week with IGAD member states to deliberate on the Regional Consultative Process (RCP) in Addis Ababa at the United Nations Conference Centre.
According to a statement the African Union sent to ENA on Wednesday, IGAD hosts the workshop in close collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The IGAD RCP was launched by the IGAD Executive Secretary and the AU Commissioner for Social Affairs in Addis Ababa in May 2008. Subsequently the IGAD Council of Ministers adopted the RCP on migration in Djibouti during its 23rd meeting of the Council in December 2009.
The workshop deliberates on policy need and gaps as well as operational challenges in migration and border management towards achieving effective migration management in the region, the statement said.
Delegates with migration related functions and responsibilities from the IGAD member states of Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda as well as selected neighboring transit and destination countries, IGAD Partners Forum and relevant international partners attended the three-day workshop.
