18 November 2016, Addis Ababa – The IGAD Executive Secretary Amb(Eng). Mahboub Maalim this morning paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu. Amb. Maalim was accompanied by CEWARN Director, Mr Camlus Omogo, IGAD Peace and Security Division Director, Amb Tewolde Gebremeskel as well as Mr Daniel Yifru.
Amb. Maalim congratulated the Minister on his appointment and assured him of IGAD’s full support. He also briefed him on ongoing organisational reform efforts at IGAD as well as the various efforts IGAD is leading in promoting peace and security; in promoting Infrastructure and trade as well as in addressing food security and migration related challenges. Amb. Maalim also touched on the contributions of IGAD’s Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN).
The Minister, on his part, thanked the Executive Secretary for his visit and affirmed his commitment to work closely with IGAD on the issues raised.
