25-10-2018, Djibouti (Djibouti): The Executive Secretary of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H.E. Amb (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim, today sent a congratulatory message to Her Excellency Sahlework Zewde, the incoming President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome the approval by the Parliament of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia of Her Excellency Sahlework Zewde as President of the country, and congratulate Her Excellency in her new role as the President of Ethiopia”, the message read.
The Executive Secretary expressed his conviction beyond doubt “that H.E. Sahlework Zewde as a seasoned diplomat with extensive and in-depth knowledge of the region will advance her country and the region towards further progress in all aspects of life”.
The message further noted that this elevation was yet another positive and exemplary demonstration of inclusivity and gender parity “at the highest level of the policy making spheres since the appointment of H.E. Dr Abiy Ahmed as Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia”.
“I also congratulate the government and people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for the increased representation of women in the recently formed Cabinet where female make up half of the appointees”, the message continued before closing with the reiteration of the Executive Secretary’s readiness and enthusiasm and that of his entire organization to work with the new President.
