The Executive Secretary of IGAD, Ambassador (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim congratulates H.E. President Omar Hassan al-Bashir of Sudan and H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan for their continued commitment to the Cooperation Agreement of 27th September 2012 as illustrated by the successful summit held in Juba, South Sudan on 12th April 2013.
The summit was yet another demonstration by the two leaders to enhance the peaceful coexistence of the peoples of their sisterly countries and ensure their economic viability.
Amb. Mahboub further commends the two Heads of State and Government for the resumption of oil production, which will boost normalization of the relationship between the two interdependent countries.
The Executive Secretary also expressed hope that the two Presidents will address the issue of Abyei with the support of AUHIP to finally resolve the differences therein.
IGAD shall always support Member States engaged to foster peace and stability in the region.
