24-08-2017, Djibouti, (Djibouti): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Congratulates the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and its Tigrai Regional State for winning the Gold Award for Future Policy 2017.
IGAD congratulates and expresses its happiness and admiration that Ethiopia, and in particular the Regional State of Tigrai, has won the Future Policy Gold Award 2017 given by the World Future Council and United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
This is a sign of the right policies Ethiopia has formulated at Federal level and the right actions taken by the Regional State of Tigrai by adopting and implementing the policies formulated at Federal and Regional levels.
The main policy/strategy that is under implementation and contributing to the achievement of such a World Award is the Green Economy Strategy that Ethiopia follows as well its efforts to achieve sustainable management of natural resources, including the promotion of renewable energy, water harvesting, climate smart agriculture and carbon neutral economic development.
IGAD acknowledges that Ethiopia plays a central role in promoting regional integration in the IGAD region not only through its policies and strategies in sustainable management natural resources, but also in infrastructure development (transport, energy connectivity and telecommunication) and in achieving peace and security.
IGAD is proud to be associated with the achievements in regional integration, peace and security and natural resources and environment management in the region and commits itself to promote the Ethiopian experience and other best practices in the region.
