The Inter-governmental Authorities on Development (IGAD) condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks on January 1, 2019 against the UN compound in Mogadishu Somalia, injuring two UN staff members.
The blatant attacks demonstrate the disregard of violent extremist and terrorist group for humanitarian law and for sanctity of human life.
IGAD wishes a quick recovery to the two UN staff members injured as the result of these attacks. IGAD also wishes to express its deep appreciation to the United Nations for its continued support to the peace and stability of Somalia.
IGAD stands with the people and Government of Somalia in their resolve to fight against terrorism
