IGAD Assesses the Capacity Building Needs of Democratic Institutions

22nd November 2017, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia): The Peace and Security Division of IGAD, through its Political Affairs Programme held a consultative meeting to assess the capacity building needs of democratic institutions in IGAD member states in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 20th- 22nd November 2017.

The overall objectives of the consultative meeting were to make an in-depth assessment of the capacity of democratic institutions in the IGAD member states and to identify areas for future capacity building support. The meeting also provided a unique opportunity for these institutions to discuss their common challenges and to establish networks among themselves.
Participants of this consultative meeting included senior officials and experts from  Ombudsman, Human Rights Commissions, Anti- Corruption Commissions, Election  Monitoring Bodies, the  Judiciary as well as the IGAD focal Persons of the Member states.
