IGAD Ambassadors to Brussels Visit Secretariat

06-11-2017, Djibouti, Djibouti: The Ambassadors of some member countries of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to Brussels in Belgium yesterday concluded on a two-day visit to the Secretariat of the regional organisation in Djibouti.

Ambassador Omar Abdi Said of Djibouti, Ambassador Teshome Toga Chamaka of Ethiopia, Ambassador Weru Johnson Mwangi of Kenya, and Ambassador Ali Said Faqi of Somalia accredited to the Kingdom of Belgium and Mission to the European Union for their respective countries, were received by IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E Amb (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim, and staff on November 4th during a meeting focused on peace and security at IGAD Secretariat conference hall. 

The Peace & Security meeting with the Ambassadors was attended by the Commissioner of the Djibouti National Police, Colonel Abdillahi Abdi Farah, who highlighted the importance of mutual cooperation in the area of preserving the security of citizens in the region. 

It is during his opening remarks that the Executive Secretary reminded the audience that the IGAD Ambassadors were on a working visit to get informed of IGAD projects and programmes in the fields of peace and security and migration related issues mainly. But the Ambassadors were also briefed on Infrastructure and maritime security on day two of their visit. 

IGAD Ambassadors will be going back to their duty station armed with useful information and insights that will assist them in their meeting with the European Commission around the end of this month. 

As they were wrapping-up their visit, the Ambassadors were on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti, H.E Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, yesterday.
