September 13, 2021 (Bishoftu, Ethiopia): The Gender Affairs Program, in partnership with the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiatives (IDDRSI), convened a coordination meeting for the Gender and Resilience Working Group on September 13th and 15th, 2021.
Dr. John Kabayo, Head of the IDDRSI Platform, opened the meeting on behalf of the IGAD Executive Secretary, and Mr. Seleshe Tadesse, Director of the Ethiopian government’s Women Mobilization and Enhancement Directorate, also spoke.
The overall objective of the coordination meeting of the Gender and Resilience Working Group was to assist the IDDRSI Platform and its members in ensuring that the normative standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment outlined in various international, regional, and national instruments are adequately reflected and applied in the design, implementation, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of various international, regional, and national instruments.
The coordination meeting was held in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, from September 13th to 15th, 2021. It brought together representatives from Member States as well as experts from the Secretariat.
During the three days of the meeting, specific objectives will be discussed such us to
- orient its members on new IDDRSI planning frameworks at regional and country levels;
- review progress, achievements, challenges and lessons for 2020/2021; and
- develop GRWG’s work plan for 2021/2022.
The meeting is organized through the support of the Sweden Fund’s Strengthening Coordination and Implementation of IDDRSI (SCII).
