Sunday, 23rd July 2017, Juba – South Sudan: The Council of Ministers of the InterGovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will hold its 58th Extra-Ordinary Session tomorrow, Monday 24th July 2017 in Juba, South Sudan to review the progress made and revitalize the peace process in the country.
The cl toouncil wilday consult and hold a meeting with various stakeholders including representatives of the international community, faith-based organizations, eminent persons, youth and women, the civil society and the private sector prior to its deliberations. It is also expected to pay a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit before finalizing its business.
Under the chairmanship of H.E. Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the council will be briefed on the current situation in South Sudan by H.E. Festus Mogae, Chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC); H.E. Deng Alor Kuol, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan and H.E. Ismail Wais, IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan.
The Council will deliberate the peace process in South Sudan and the planned High Level Revitalization Forum, as well as the 2017 IGAD Secretariat Budget.
