The Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) conducted a training program on election observation from 05-09 November 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The training program is part of the background preparation for the upcoming election in the Republic of Kenya aimed at strengthening the capacity of potential observers to be deployed during the election scheduled for March 2012.
The training was attended by participants from IGAD member states drawn from the Ministries of Justice, National Parliaments, National Election Commissions and Ministries of Foreign/External Affairs of member states.
The training was conducted by elections experts from the National Democratic Institute of South Africa which was recommended by the Africa Union Commission.
The five days training Program was conducted successfully and is hoped to enhance the IGAD roaster of potential election observes to be deployed by the Secretariat.
