Nov. 3, 2019 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and Windle International (WI), an NGO working on education in displacement situations in the IGAD region, have started preliminary consultations on the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement.
The two entities identified training, certification and recognition of teachers’ qualification in refugee settlement areas a key priority for IGAD and its member states as spelt out in the Djibouti Declaration on Education for Refugees, Returnees and Host Communities.
This joint intention was made clear when Mr. Emmanuel Curuma and Dr. Marangu Njogu from WI paid a working visit to the IGAD Head Quarters in Djibouti on Nov. 2, 2019, where they held constructive discussions with the IGAD Director of Social Development, Mme Fathia Alwan and Dr Kebede Kassa, Coordinator of IGAD Education Programs.
The MoU is expected to focus on key deliverables and to be signed shortly.
WI’s vision is ‘a world where everyone has the opportunity through education and training to make the most of their potential and contribute to sustainable development’, which is in harmony with that of IGAD.
