The Executive Secretary, Eng. Mahboub Maalim, received on Wednesday 27 August 2008 Mr. Ali Haribou, FAO Representative to Djibouti and to IGAD at the Secretariat. Mr. Haribou congratulated the ES on his recent appointment as Executive Secretary and pledged to work with him in promoting cooperation between the two organisations.
Mr. Haribou informed the ES of the impending mission of FAO Sub-regional Office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to the Secretariat in early September 2008. He also invited the ES to visit the FAO Headquarters in Rome. In response, the ES expressed his appreciation to FAO for the long cooperation with IGAD and requested FAO to work closely with the Secretariat in tackling the issue of rising global food prices that is afflicting the region.
Dr. Abdi Jama, adviser from the IGAD Livestock Policy Initiative was also present at the meeting.
