23.01.2020 (NAIROBI, KENYA): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) staff of the Peace and Security Division and all other program offices are meeting in Kenya’s capital Nairobi to review the implementation of the Peace and Security Strategy of 2019 and to chart ways forward through internal and external coordination, synergies and enhanced partnerships in 2020.
The meeting is to also jointly review and identify major achievements, lessons learned and challenges of the year 2019 and devise effective mechanisms to achieve great results.

The focus in 2020 will be on enhancing internal coordination, effective implementation of the planned activities, information sharing and periodic joint analysis as well as gender mainstreaming and enhanced communication and visibility towards peace, security and regional integration in the Region.
The meeting also focuses on how to enhance its relevance and meaningfully contribute to the member states. In this regard, issues of capacity development activities targeting relevant institutions has been emphasized putting in place a proper follow up mechanism so as to capture changes that can be registered.
Also top on the agenda is the IGAD Promoting Peace and Stability in the Horn of Africa Region (IPPSHAR) as well as provide an update on the implementation status of the Road Map on the implementation effectiveness assessment and exchange of views on the Executive Security’s 100 days plan.
The 3-day meeting is with the financial support from the European Union Trust Fund (EUTF) being managed by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and is being attended by senior management, operational and planning staff of IGAD Peace and Security Division and ADA.
