08-10-2018, Djibouti (Djibouti): On behalf of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary, the Director of Agriculture and Environment Division, Mr Mohamed Moussa, today received the Regional Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Ms Erika Joergensen, at the Secretariat.

Mr Moussa welcomed the Regional Director and gave her a brief overview of IGAD overall and the relations the regional organisation has had with WFP. He recalled a Memorandum of Understanding between IGAD and WFP signed in 2010 which will need to be revitalised. Mr Moussa highlighted the complementary role of the regional organisation which implements programmes with Member States while they are the beneficiaries.

 The Nairobi-based WFP Regional Director thanked Mr Moussa for his warm welcome and specified that one of her objectives was to establish or strengthen relations with the regional entities in her area of operations. She said her interest of identifying potential areas of cooperation with IGAD.

 The two parties committed themselves to enhancing cooperation and following up with the outcomes of their meeting of today
