IGAD Executive Secretary Receives Ambassadors of Finland and Switzerland

15-01-2018, Djibouti (Djibouti): The Addis Ababa-based Ambassador of Switzerland accredited to IGAD, H.E Daniel Hunn, presented his credential letters to the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H.E Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim, at the Secretariat of the regional organization in Djibouti.

Similarly, the Ambassador of Finland newly accredited to IGAD, H.E Helena Airaksinen, did also present her credential letters to the Executive Secretary yesterday.

The Executive Secretary successively and separately welcomed the Ambassadors to his office and thanked them for the support provided to IGAD in various areas such as capacity building, migration, and land policy governance among others.

Discussions focused on the situations in Somalia and in South Sudan and on the efforts by IGAD and partners aimed at stabilizing these two countries. The Executive Secretary took the opportunity to announce the next IGAD Council of Ministers to be held on January 27th in Addis Ababa with South Sudan on top of the agenda. He touched on the recent High Level Revitalization Forum for South Sudan which was launched last December.

The necessity of sustaining the Joint Financing Agreement, to which Finland and Switzerland are parties to, were discussed as well possibilities expanding cooperation areas for the development of the region. ###
