IGAD Committee of Ambassadors Meet over Budget 2018

21-11-2017, Djibouti (Djibouti): The Chair of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Committee of Ambassadors (CoA) and Ambassador of Ethiopia to Djibouti, H.E Amb Shamebo Fitamo, yesterday chaired the 33rd Meeting of the Committee in Djibouti.

Ambassadors from IGAD Member States to Djibouti attended this committee meeting dedicated to the review of the IGAD budget 2017 and the adoption of the budget of the organisation for the upcoming year.

The meeting of the Committee of Ambassadors was preceded by a meeting of the Committee of Experts from Member States’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Ministries of Finance held at IGAD Secretariat on November 19th, 2017.

In his welcoming remarks at the 33rd Committee of Ambassadors Meeting, IGAD Executive Secretary, Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim, highlighted the crucial role of finance for every organisation to operate and run programmes. “Each and every one of us knows the importance of this Committee of Ambassadors meeting on IGAD budget we do hold on a yearly basis, and we thank you for your time and dedication to the task”, he said.

“Our presentations today will focus on achievements with their cost implications during 2017, and will also touched on challenges encountered”, Amb Maalim continued. “We are convinced that you will be of much assistance to the organisation in regards to overcoming these challenges”, he concluded before giving the floor to Amb Shamebo to officially open the meeting and chair the discussions.
 
Amb Shamebo said that the IGAD Committee of Ambassadors is “one of the policy organs of IGAD and is entrusted to assist, guide and oversight the activities of the IGAD Secretariat”. “We are also going to evaluate the accomplishment of the Secretariat by scrutinizing the major mile stones achieved, the challenges encountered and the way forward”, he said before declaring the meeting open.
