10-04-2017, Djibouti (Djibouti): The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) condemns in the strongest terms possible the Al Shabab terror attack of yesterday that killed innocent citizens and injured others in Mogadishu, the capital of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
IGAD offers its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Somalia, and wishes a quick recovery to those injured. This atrocious terror attack which was targeting Somalia’s new military chief is a failure that once again showed Al Shabaab terror group’s disrespect for human life and civilians’ protection.
As the people and government of this long suffering nation, that heroically overcame two decades of war and destruction, are rebuilding and stabilizing their homeland, the Al Shabab terror group is bent on destroying every gain. Even if this group has been weeded out of most areas by the Somalia national forces and the AU forces, and even if it has been downgraded to the level of roaming murderers, it is still causing a lot of harm to the citizens of the country.
IGAD reaffirms, yet again, its solidarity with and dedication to the people and government of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and pledges to do all it can to support efforts that can bring lasting peace, stability and economic development for the benefit of the resilient government and people of Somalia.
